Designer News - Autumn Trends

As the season changes from Summer to Autumn, we all see a change in our mood and shift in our focus.

One of our biggest learnings in the world of interiors is how as we change internally our wants and needs at home also change to reflect.

That is very apparent this season, as we say goodbye to the bright and bold bursts of summer and head into a season of grounding, with natural materials and earthy tones.

“One of the biggest comebacks for Autumn 2022 are the eclectic tastes of the 70s, mixing textures and patterns and breaking rules of design, we will see furry shag pile rugs and animal prints paired with geometric patterns, groovy tiling and soft curved edges” advises Emily Porter - Design Consultant

In addition to this, the nod to natural material and sustainability will remain high on the design agenda with brands, such as John Lewis continuing to focus on their sustainability strategies - creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.

This sees a huge shift to raw material sourcing and use of natural textures including rattan, cork, ceramics and macrame around the home.

So, what colours are on the rise this Autumn.

No surprise, earthy browns, autumnal terracotta, reds and oranges are big again this season.

Mixed with Autumnal fragrances of Pear, Quince & Amber - in the White Company’s Autumn collection this autumn is set to feel grounded, earthy yet crisp.

Getting creative with open shelving is still a family home favourite this Autumn. From open pantries, kids room shelves to casual bookcases - the mix ‘n match of fun and function emphasises a warm, homely and rustic feel to a space this Autumn.

what about in the Kitchen?

Over summer we saw an increase in bold navy and moody coloured kitchens, but Autumn is brightening this up. With more pastel kitchen shade coming on the scene, with soft pink being especially popular.

This Autumn there is a real focus on the need to rest and recover and soft pinks have emerged as the colour to invoke this sense of wellness. This colour works particularly well with bronze and brass. This adds plenty of warmth to the space without feeling overwhelming.

What do you think of soft pink in the kitchen? Would you use it?

Getting in the mood

One thing is for sure this winter, the darker evenings are rolling in and the need for creature comforts are instinctive. At a time when heating feels like a luxury, creating warmth throughout the home is sure to bring some peace this season.

Grab a chunky blanket, switch on a lamp and enjoy Autumnal evening bliss.
