How to create ‘The Look’

Do you may remember this unique marina apartment that we staged earlier this year?

With this particular property it was all about the quirky architecture and interior. We considered a particular style that would compliment the open brickwork, iron and wooden beams. Using hints of deep blue and foliage to really give it a pop of life.

Want to know the steps we took to create this look?

Here are a few design tips that could help you transform your HOME using similar techniques:

1.Type of Property

Really consider your type of property and it’s interior - what style, design and colour would compliment it. If you aren’t willing to re-paint the walls, use a colour pallet in the form of fabrics & accessories that will naturally tie in with that tone. If you are considering painting, some things to keep in mind are; the orientation and size of the windows, when and how long a space is used, the purpose of the space and atmosphere desired.

2. Define the layout

Clearly define the layout and where your furniture would be placed. You may notice from this particular property the reception space was given a triple purpose clearly defining the room into living, dining and a study area. If you lack extra rooms, a room that is multi-functional is a great use of the whole space.

3.Are you Thinking of selling?

If you are thinking of selling your property, really consider how much furniture is in the space already. Too much furniture will make the room feel overcrowded and less accessible, however very little can often make the room cold and uninviting. After all you will want potential buyers to really have a connection and appreciate the winning features of your property. Check out our case study on this property and see just how we staged each room.

4.Lighting

Pay attention to how much natural light is in the room - this lighting affects the appearance of colours. Always judge the lighting of the space before choosing a colour for a room. Take note that colour is best judged by natural daylight. We would recommend testing paint colour samples at different times of the day.

Also consider what artificial light you may use for that room. What mood do you want to create? Or is it a practical space that needs functional lighting? Why not read our blog that offers advice on choosing the right lightbulbs to finish a room.
