How to warm up your home and get a hot offer this Winter!

With cost of living on the rise, home buyers are looking to make reassuring home purchases that fit with their wants and needs without setting themselves up for painful energy costs.

One way to help potential buyers feel safe in their home purchase this Winter is to warm up your home…..without needing to touch that thermostat.

“Doesn’t this property feel warm, and the heating isn’t even on!”

5 ways to create a warmer feeling home and get your offer this Winter.

To help you on your Winter home selling journey, our Staging Design Consultant, Emily Porter shares her top 5 tips to create a warmer feeling home - without needing to fire up the heating.

1) use Comforting Colours

Colours have a huge impact on a buyer’s mindset.  A cosier, warmer feeling home brings greater comfort, drawing buyers into a place of ease.

To maximise selling potential this Winter, consider changing any cooler white or grey walls for a warmer neutral base.  This change alone is sure to take any chill out of any room.

We love this Dulux colour palette to bring in the warmth.

Using a mix of earthy tones, with muted golds and terracottas (for accessories and soft furnishings) will bring depth and richness to the space. When paired with a neutral colour wall will bring ultimate comfort and balance.

Not selling, but wanting to warm up your own home

Using a splash of colour on a feature wall can change the total feel of the room. Creating a warm atmosphere in your home during the winter requires opulent colours to create a cocoon effect.

If you're not in the mood for painting, that's ok!

You can incorporate these feature colours through accessories, cushions or artwork which not only adds that burst of spice but invites soft cosy feels as well!

2) USE Snug Rugs

Wooden flooring is currently on trend at the moment but can feel cold in the winter months.

You can change this by incorporating rugs with soft textures to allow the space to feel less sparse. Not only does this look amazing but is also practical to keep your buyer’s feet warm!

Classic basketweave rugs are a popular choice for the trending farmhouse aesthetic at the moment but for warmth and comfort a deep pile sheepskin rug works really well!

3) Throws

The easiest way to make you feel cosy is to wrap up warm in the fluffiest blanket you've got!

They are not only practical but by adding the variety of  chunky knits and soft velvets to a cosy corner creates the ultimate warm, welcoming atmosphere - not to mention an inspirational glimpse of a cosy future in your home.

Emily’s TOP TIP - Storing your blankets in a wicker basket keeps them tucked away when you don't need them and fills that blank space you don't know how to fill!

4) Let there be light!

Incorporate mood lighting instead of using your main overhead light, to create a warming glow which naturally creates a sense of calm.

Ask your agent to turn the lamps on ready for viewings to set the mood.

Table lamps, floor lamps and candles are a clear way to do this but choosing the right scent of candles will allow the space to feel tranquil and help you further relax.

We love these battery candle lights - which operate on a timer.

Get the candle lit effect all day long.

5) Fleece

Fleece is the warmest looking material, and will send your future buyers into a cozy day dream.  Lay fleece materials casually on your sofa or over the arm of a chair.  The teddy bear range in Dunelm is very popular at the moment!

This cosy material ranges from dressing gowns, soft furnishings and bedding.

Taking time to consider the “feel” of your home from the perspective of your buyer is a great investment in preparing your home on the market. Emily’s steps to effortlessly add a little warmth to your home are sure to get you the hot offer that you deserve.
