Selling a noisy house

Road noise, barking dogs, school playgrounds - all noises that can impact the sellability of a home, but what can you do to reduce their impact?

Here are our trusted tips to help you sell a noise home.

Living in a noisy location can be frustrating when trying to sell your home, especially when even the most unintrusive background noise can feel like a big deal to home buyers.

Whether you are close to a motorway bridge, play park or busy shopping centre - noise pollution can be a fast turn off for buyers, but with a few simple tips they do not need to be a problem.

Here are 5 effective tips to help you minimise noise and get you the offer that you are hoping for.

1 - Close the Windows

Ahead of all viewings, close your windows to reduce any external noises.

2 - Ambient sound

Use a sound system, “Alexa” or radio to play calming, ambient music throughout your home to distract viewers from any outside noise.

3 - Know the schedule

Understand where the noise is coming from and learn the pattern and routine. Avoid hosting viewings at times in the day where the noise is louder and more intrusive, such as rush hour or school play times.

4 - Agent on side

Make sure that your agent is aware of the situation, and is able to deliver an honest yet positive picture to prospective buyers.  Depending on the severity of the situation, they may be able to provide alternative solutions for viewers with costs to reduce any concern.

5 - Natural sound proofing

If you have time on your side, plant greenery around your border. A dense hedge will help absorb unwanted sound.
