With hundreds of removals companies in Hampshire alone, if is easy to see why choosing the “right” one can feel hard. From a straight forward man & van service to fully inclusive packing with removals & installation, there is a package for everyone, but which is the right one for you?

Here are our 5 top tips to get the best removals experience with bonus tips to make sure that you secure your Stamp Duty holiday moving date.

1. Know what you need

Before starting your removals hunt, ask yourself the following questions.

  • Do you want help packing all of your possessions, or would you prefer to do the packing?

  • Would you feel safer having fragile items packed on your behalf?

  • Do you live close enough to prepare and pack your property, or would you benefit from someone else managing it for you?

  • Do you want to leave packing until as late as possible, or do you have time to start early?

  • Are you moving a small number of items and able to transport yourself?

  • Do you need help taking items downstairs or out of the property?

  • Do you want your possessions to be set up, unpacked and ready for you to move straight in?

  • What is your budget?

Knowing exactly what you need will help you to get the right quotes from the right companies, reducing any confusion and frustration.

2. Get Specific
When getting quotes, be clear about what you want from your removals service. Arrange for the removals team to come out and survey your possessions ahead of quoting, ensuring that they are very clear on the size of the job and what your expectations are. This will remove any confusion further down the line.

3. Know the details

Ask for information on insurance, deposits, timings and payment terms early within the process. Avoid any businesses who are unclear about any of these details.

4. PREPARE FOR CHANGE

We all know that change can be very present in a property move, but being aware and prepared for this makes it much easier to manage both emotionally and physically. Get clear information from the removals service about their response to change and ask for examples of situations where they have dealt with changed moving plans, delays or cancellations.

5. CHECK CREDENTIALS

Just because Auntie Sue knows the Removal Service Manager’s Mother, doesn’t make it a great choice. Check Google, Facebook and even Check a Trade for real reviews.

BONUS TIPS - STAMP DUTY HOLIDAY EXTENSION DEADLINE

Once you have your removal team set and ready to go, here are two bonus tips for securing a removals date as we approach the stamp duty holiday deadline date.

1. Move away from a Friday completion date

Friday’s are always the busiest moving day, so where possible, opt for a different date. This will give you better availability.

2. Book early

Dale Walton of Hampshire based, Meon Valley Removals recommends thinking ahead and booking early.

“We are already seeing increased bookings in anticipation of the SDLT Holiday end date, so recommend that movers be prepared and book early”.

This will get you in the diary and make you a priority for your chosen removals team.
